19. All Israel hears of the wisdom of Solomon
The verse:
A dream did come to Solomon in which the Lord inquired
Just what it was he wished for that would be his heart's desire
As a king he was so new, he knew not where he was to start
So then Solomon asked God to give an understanding heart
The Lord did grant to Solomon great wisdom for his wishes
And also he did give to him a lot of extra riches
He told him of His promise then to lengthen out his days
If Solomon would strive to walk in Heavenly Father's ways
Then Solomon awakended from the dream while it was dark
And burnt offerings he did fire up near the cov'nant of Ark.
Jerusalem was where he lived as he began to reign,
When two women who were harlots, his attention were to gain
They were living in the same house and they both had given birth
To two boys, but one had died and gone to heaven from the earth
One woman did explain it all and didn't seem afraid
To tell Solomon the other woman had the child o'erlaid
Then in the night did take from her the child that was alive
And placed beside her as she slept the infant that had died
When in the morning she awoke and saw the baby dead
She did look at it real closely while her tears were surely shed
Then she testified the child laid there was surely not her own
And then the fight between the women quick became full blown
The argument was brought before the wise and new made king
To see what kind of judgment to the issue he would bring
A servant he did call to come in carrying a sword
Told the women to put down the living child they both adored
He commanded that the servant should now cut the child in two
And give half a child to each of them, the fight would then be through.
One woman then called out and said “No, please don't slay the child”
Give him to the other woman who is very much reviled”
But the other woman spake and was so totally misguided
That she said that it was fair that the young boy should be divided
Then the king knew the woman who was actually the mother
And the baby he did give alive to her and to no other
'Twas the woman who did speak right up the tiny child to save
Who was certainly the mother of the precious little babe
Then the word was passed around the town and spread so far and wide
Of the judgment of King Solomon - the wisdom he applied
And all Israel grew and prospered beneath Solomon's command
'Cause he asked the Lord to give to him a heart to understand.
