The Tower of Babel

Genesis 11:1-9

The Details:
1.After the flood, Noah's descendants spread from the East
2.They all speak one language
3.Dwell in land of Shinar
4.They make brick for stone, slime for mortar
5.They decide to build a city with a great tower reaching up to heaven
6.Want to make a name lest they are scattered all over the earth
7.Lord comes down to see the city and tower
8.Lord sees the people's wicked work, nothing is restrained because they all speak the same language
9.Lord says, “Let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.”
10.The Lord scatters them abroad upon the face of the earth, they cease to build the city
11.The name of the place is Babel, because the Lord confounded their language and scattered them.

The Verse:
When the flood was done and the rain had ceased
All the people spread around to the West from East
And the language that they used living under the sun
They did all understand, 'twas the very same one

They decided that they'd stop and they wouldn't go far
But they'd settle in a valley that was called Shinar
Mortar came from slime and their stone was brick
And they thought they'd build a city that would be real slick

With a tower in the middle reaching way up high
And steps going up to get to heaven in the sky
It would be so great that it would surely get some fame
All the people of the earth would know the city's name

Then the Lord came down to see the city and the tower
But he wasn't real pleased 'cause folks were wicked every hour
He thought perhaps conversation was to blame
'Cause they talked a lot and their language was the same

Then the Lord spoke up and said “Let us go down”
And confound their words when they make a sound”
Then the people did speak but didn't understand
'Cause a multitude of languages were in the land

Then the city and the tower they did cease to build
You see the Lord had spoken and the Lord had willed
They were scattered on the earth, in their work to dabble
And the tower they were building got the name of Babel
