The Rhyme:

Darius was a mighty, mighty king
With some mighty mighty princes doing everything
Daniel was, by the king preferred
But all the kingdom princes thought he was absurd

They did look to discover Daniel's fault
Yeah, they looked so hard that they finally had to halt
So they drafted up a law for the mighty king to sign
That for 30 days the king would be the one that was divine

The law did say that the people couldn't pray
Unless it was to Darius, the king who ruled the day
The princes then watched Daniel to see what he would do
While he prayed to God 3 times a day in open window view.

Then the princes saw him pray and decided to report
That a disobedient subject was existing in his court
The king was most unhappy and he didn't do real well
When he learned the new law breaker was his president Daniel

But he didn't have a choice because he'd made a new decree
Though he looked to find a way for his friend Daniel to go free
And the princes did remember that the king had signed the law
And his failure to enforce it would be seen as quite a flaw

So then Darius commanded to put Daniel in the den
With a bunch of hungry lions who had eaten many men
But the king did tell to Daniel that his fate was not so grim
That the God that he had prayed to would for sure deliver him

A great stone was rolled to block the place of entrance to the den
While the king did fast and try to sleep, but couldn't now or then
So the next day very early he went to the den to see
If the God of Daniel had preserved his life to be set free

He called out beside the stone to hear if his friend did survive
And then Daniel called out to the king that yes, he was alive
An angel came and cause the hungry lions' mouths to shut
And they didn't put a scratch on him or try to make a cut

The king was very happy that his loyal prince was saved
But his anger burned real hot against the princes' acts depraved
Then he gathered the accusers who trapped Daniel in their snare
With their families he did throw them in the hungry lion's lair

And then the lions had their fill and all of them devoured
While Daniel he brought out again and fully was empowered
A new decree he issued that to all within his sphere
That before the God of Daniel they should tremble and should fear
